Job Summary: Cellular and molecular biologist. A research assistant is responsible for executing research and experimentation on scientific projects prioritized by the organization. He or she assists in the experimental designs, conducts experiments and analyzes data.

Position status: This position is full-time (i.e. 5 days per week) pour a month period, or more

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepares protocols
• Records scientific data by producing electronic experimental reports in an organized and timely manner
• Contributes to the process of a project within his or her scientific discipline, as well as assisting in the development of new methods and technologies for project advancement.
• Participates in internal scientific laboratory meetings.
• Contributes to the general organization of the laboratory.

Education / Qualifications:

• At the entry level, the job requires a bachelor or a Master’s degree in science or equivalent work experience.
• 2-3 year work experience is required.

General Skills and Abilities:

• Experience in molecular biology techniques including PCR, DNA cloning and mutagenesis, western blotting and ELISA. The candidate should be able to demonstrate expertise in both conducting and designing such experiments.
• Experience maintaining and conducting experiments with cell lines using routine tissue culture techniques.
• Basic scientific writing skills.
• Computer skills and competencies in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and on-line scientific searching.
• Knowledge of French and English.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Preparation of plasmid expression vectors for expression of potential drug targets (cloning, mutagenesis, western blotting, etc.).
• Analysis of the function of potential drug targets in cell lines (proliferation and differentiation assays, gene and protein expression analysis by western blotting and RT-PCR, etc.).
• Assist with laboratory organization.
